It is ok to duplicate your most important keyword once, but please do not over do it as it will not do any good for your search engine ranking, but it will only upset the search engines. Overloading your description tags or any other page component with the same keyword or keyword phrase is known as spamming.  Trying to trick search engines by over doing the keywords may cause your website being penalized by the search engines.

One of the most important things that you should remember; you should consider your description tag as not only your search engine component, but also a sales tool. Remember that much of the tag perhaps first 150-170 characters will quite likely be seen in the search results, so you want to use something that encourages people to click on the link. Most search engines use the site's <TITLE> tag as the link and main title of the site's listing on the search results page. Title tags not only tell the browser what text to display in the browser's title bar, but they are also very important for the search engines.

Searchbots read page titles and use important information to determine what the pages are about. If your title tags have a keyword between them that competing pages don't have, you have a good chance of getting at or near the top of the search results.

The title tag is one of the most important components as far as search engines are concerned. However, these tags are usually wasted because few sites bother placing useful keywords in them. Let's assume you have done your keyword research. You have chosen what keywords you want to use for your site. You also know what keywords will bring you most traffic.

Suppose that someone searches for Projectors. The search engine finds two sites that use the keyword term. One site has a single page in which the term occurs and the other site has dozens of pages containing the term. Now, I am going to ask you a simple question: which site does the search engine think that is most relevant? Let's say, you got it right. The site which has more many pages of the subject, of course.

Some search engines such as Google often provides two results from a site, one intended below the other. I am sure; you have noticed it from any of your search. So if your site has one page related to the subject, the search engine can only bring one page for the search term.
Well, you have a website or a blog what needs optimizing. You need to put the keywords correctly throughout the pages.

Your title tag is the best place to start with. Search engines treat the titles of the websites like you would choose a book after you have looked at the name. I am trying to make a simple point here for you. If you are in a library or a shop where you want to buy or rent a book from and you don't know what book to get as you only know the type of the books. Say you are looking for comedy books. You have seen a book on a self named "Laugh A Lot Comedy Book". I am sure you would want to have a look at it as it says comedy on the book name and points it out to you clearly that it is a comedy book. It even mentions some stuff related to the comedy such as "Laugh A Lot". Search engines like Google treat your title tag like the name of the book what tells about a website before you even look into it. So please do make sure to add some keywords into your title texts to make it clear for the search engines about what your site is about. I am sure it will help you as I do the same for my sites, so my students do and rank at the top for most popular keywords.

Description tag is another place where you must place your keywords throughout the texts. You must not repeat the same keyword more than once into the description texts. Otherwise, this will reduce the space of putting more keywords and the description will not look generous. It will be like keywords stuffing too.

You will have to start placing keywords throughout your site and I mean on the main pages. Do not repeat the keywords more than once or twice. You need to make real paragraphs about your service and what you offer. It is all about making it look natural. Google says; built it for your visitors and we will follow you through. It means; you need to make the site contents for your visitors, but you should not target the search engines and write the keywords on purpose. So you will need to be smart there. You will need to make the contents for the visitors and search engines both and that is why you are optimizing your site. Make the search engines believe that your site is worth it and it is made for the real visitors by writing the contents targeting natural visitors. Please do keep it simple and write human understood contents and without repeating the keywords over and over.
It is recommended to target no more than two or three keywords per page to make it even better. There are a few places altogether. Please do not panic, because it is very easy to do, although you are new to this game. Just follow and do as I have advised here and you will be one step ahead. When you use a search engine, you type in a word or phrase and click the search button. The search engine then looks for this word in its index. The word what you type in it is called Keyword for the SEO purpose.

Pages that contain the exact phrase Cheap Projectors.

Well, search engines actually do not have any written confirmation that they follow as I have explained above, but I have learnt the above from my research and experience. You can trust me on that and follow my advice. However, when search engines are considering the keywords in the web page, they also look at the following in terms of valuing a keyword or phrase in a page:

Bold Text or Texts
Italicized Texts
Bulleted Lists
Texts Larger than Other Texts on the Page
Heading Texts (<H> tags)

Well, if search engine do not see your site is related to the search term of the keyword, it is not going to rank your page for that keyword. It depends on the website of yours including its title and descriptions. 

Picking up the right keywords bring success and more traffic for your business. That is what you want after all. So if you don't pick up the right keywords, you are not going to get your targeted traffic. For this reason you will need to research and pick up the right keywords related to your website. You will then have to create or amend your site according to those keywords what you're targeting to rank for. 

If you do not have the keywords in your web page or do not have any links pointing to your website with those keywords, you are not going to rank for those keywords. In most cases, considering the competition, you will need to have the keywords written in your web pages and contents as well as having so many links pointing to your website with those keywords being used as anchor texts.

For an example, your site is called www.projectorsite.co.uk and your targeted key phrase is cheap projectors. If someone searches for projectors typing cheap projectors in the search engine, you will not appear in the search result, because you do not have anything mentioned or written in your web page with that key phrase. Not only that, but also you do not have any links pointing to your website saying Cheap Projectors in the anchor text. But if you do have those words explained in details in your website and your tiles and descriptions match with them you are one step ahead of your competitors. If you have a few links containing those words pointing to your site, you are even more closer to get ranking, it could be higher ranking than your competitors considering how many links your site has pointing to it and how old is your site.

Alexa toolbar and Google toolbar are the most useful ones. However, you don't have to have all these toolbars open at the same time, if you don't use them. You can simply disable or close or untick the not necessary toolbars.

You will need one more important thing for your keywords research. You will need the Google Keyword Analysis. Go to the web page by clicking Google Keyword Analysis. Then add it to your favorite bar. It is just to make SEO work much handier and quicker for you. This is the best and free keyword researching tool. Well, after all why should you pay for some tools, if you can even get the best one for free?

Alexa is a company what is owned by Amazon.com and partnered with Google and Microsoft. It has been around for a long time and millions of people use it. Go to Google and search for the keyword "Solicitors"; you will see it says "About 8,300,000 results (0.32 seconds)” just below the Google search box. It has brought over 8 million results for the word "Solicitors". If anyone wants to beat the competition and want to be at the first page for this keyword, they will have to do better than the websites what are already ranked for this keyword.

Or it would be too easy for webmasters to create pages with the search term of their visitors and present it to the search engines.

However, I can explain you the normal concepts how Google and other search engines do the ranking and bring the most relevant pages at the top of their results. When Google gets your search term, it starts looking for the web pages containing exact keywords. Then it looks for the pages that has scattered around. This isn't really in order how I am saying. In most cases; search engines bring the pages with words close together, but not the exact page appear higher than the pages what have the words together.  From our experience; we think that is because search engines evaluate pages according to a variety of reasons and criteria.

Search engines look into many factors of a webpage. They search through the HTML codes and body texts for the search term. Each time they find the word, the webpage gets more valued for the search term. A word in the right page in a good position is worth than having it in a different page in a wrong position.

Well, it’s not the end, if you are surprised. There is more to it and it must be the most important part of the search term finder. Search engines look through the websites for the relevant keywords with anchor texts and back links. Search engines look at the links pointing to the pages and they also look at what the links represent. A link represents keywords by having it as an anchor text.
